For this group of images, I was spectator to the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo in mid January 2012. The images are a survey of the people, places and things found in and around the rodeo. This project didn’t start out as a project. I was simply attending the event with my family. However, almost immediately after arriving, I knew that I would spend most of my day documenting the event rather than simply being a spectator.
The subject matter interests me enough to document it because of its throwback Americana feel. I live here and have lived here in Texas for my entire life, but I found myself fascinated by the scene in and around the Rodeo. On its face, these are documentation photos of “the other”, but in retrospect, they are really self portraits of a slice of America of which I am apart of and just never realized it.
